Vivek Vardhini College – a major institution of Vivek Vardhini Education Society, was established on 19th November 1949 and has completed 59 years of its glorious and fruitful existence.
The college started in its formative stages as an academic trickle and went on to become a heavy down pour catering to the needs of all the sections of the society in general and that of the Marathi Community in Particular. The college made a humble beginning with an intermediate section in Arts subsequently brought science and commerce subjects into its fold.
Vivek Vardhini College is the first to be affiliated to Osmania University among the aided institutions of higher learning. It is the first college to introduce Co-Education and impart education in English medium. Dr. Satwalekar was the founder Principal of the college from 1949 to 1968. It is his stature, far sightedness and intellectual acumen that were primarily responsible for the growth and stability of the college into one of the premier, leading educational institutions in AP. The college has 8 faculties consisting of 17 Departments, offering eleven courses at the UG level and 4 PG Departments, offering education at the PG level.
Presently the college has over 25,000 sq feet of built up area providing well laid out classrooms and various other related amenities. The college can boast of excellent laboratories in Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology catering to the UG, PG and Research students in Pure Sciences. A well-equipped state of the art computer lab has been installed in the year 1999. The college has a rich library with more than 45,000 volumes in textbook and other reference books of various subjects under different titles. The labs that are attached to the science faculty have catered for the Research needs of scholars.
Vivek Vardhini is an institution with a difference with a fine blend of tradition and modernity. Tradition – in its true form is an all-encompassing phenomenon, while modernity as a norm adhered to in all its forms and manifestations in keeping with the trends and nuances of times. While the former is the lifeblood of the institution, the latter is in keeping with the changing times and in tune with the Global imperatives and perspectives.
Vivek Vardhini has a long tradition of academic interaction with several renowned Western and foreign universities. Several of its faculty have either visited, interacted or have participated in the programme of Foreign universities. Dr. S.D.Satwalekar – the founder Principal himself was a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Illinois University, U. S. A. Dr. S. S. Kulkarni, Former Head, Dept of Botany, was selected in Academic exchange programme with U.S.A. Dr. Sriram Mokkapati – presently a Reader in Political Science was considered for the Award of Fellowship by the Govt of Netherlands for International Courses in 1982-83. Dr. M. S. Kodarkar, former HOD & Reader in the P.G. Department of Zoology was the recipient of the Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship for lake conservation in Glasgow University, Scotland, UK, USA, Kuwait and a host of other countries as well.
The college is housed in a sprawling area, part of which is presently serving as a playground for many an aspirant in sports and there by a springboard to sports persons to excel in their respective fields.
The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 1976 and Golden Jubilee in 1999-2000. Various academic and cultural events were held to mark the occasion. In 1989, the college was upgraded into a post-graduate center in subjects like Hindi, Zoology & Economics etc.
Research Projects
Vivek Vardhini has been a recipient of several minor and major Research Projects not only from the UGC but also from the Dept of Environment (DOE) CSIR, AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB) and other leading funding agencies. The college has also conducted several seminars, symposia and workshops sponsored by UGC, ICSSR and other agencies. Gold Medals and Awards have been instituted for the meritorious by some charitable and public minded citizens of India.

Over a million students must have had education in the college till date. Over the years, the college has produced distinguished alumni occupying eminent positions in various fields, across the country and globally as well.
Sri. Kondal Rao a senior officer in the Education Department, Sri. N. Bhaskar Rao, a Minister and Chief Minister of A.P., Sri. K. Rami Reddy, Ex-minister, Sri. B. Srinivas Rao, GM, Andhra Bank, Shri G.V.K. Reddy, Chairman G.V.K. group, Olympian Shri T.Gopal, Shri Jayantilal, Test Cricketer and many others were our past students.

The Faculty

Seminars, Symposia & Workshops
Our faculty members were invited to present research papers at different seminars & workshops organized at different places during 2008-2009.
• Dr. Vijay Kumar Advant was invited as an expert at a seminar organized by UGC on 14th January 2008. He is a recognized guide for Ph.D in Economics, Shivaji Iniversity Kolhapur. He has submitted a research project on “Impact of WTO on Indiam foreign trade (MTC-GATT-WTO) 1950 – 2008 to UGC under XIth plan programme.
• Dr. V. Laxmi Devi, Head Department of Chemistry, submitted a Research Paper for Indiam Council of Chemistry Conference, held at Agra in December – 2008.
• Dr. K. Srinivas Rao from Department of Commerce published four articles in four Journals of Economics challenger, Busivision, Insurance times and Banking finance during 2008-2009.
• Dr. K. Srinivas Rao presented a paper on “SEZ” for sustainable Rural Development at a 2 day UGC National Seminar, held at L.B. College, Warangal in October 2008. He was invited to deliver guest lectures for MBA – Annamalai University – Distance Education, New Delhi.
• He has also published a book “Business Organization and Management” for B.Com Ist Year students.
• Dr. K. Srinivas Rao, Reader, Commerce Department was invited to deliver a lecture on “Stress Management” at rotary Club, Secunderabad. He also delivered a guest lecture on “Creativity and Innovation in the light of Business Management” at Mohammadia Institute of Management, Khammam.
• Dr. Rekha Sharma, Head, Department of Hindi was invited to present a paper at National Seminar organized by Milind Prakasham at Hyderabad in June-2008. The topic was “Vyavsay Jagat mein Hindi”.
• She was a moderator for group discussion organized by “Role of Women organized by Door Darshan Kendra, Hyderabad on a topic “Role of Women Writers and promotion of Hindi Language” in July-2008.
• Dr. Rekha Sharma gave Tele-Lessons for postgraduate students at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University on “Natakkar Jay Shankar Prasad” in July – 2008.
• Dr. Sharma is the external examiner for M.Phil dissertation at University of Hyderabad. She was invited to conduct Viva Voce for Ph.D. at Osmania University and Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prochar Sabha. She was the chief guest for “Hindi Diwas” at International Airport, Hyderabad.
• She was invited to deliver a lecture at Moulana Azad University, Hyderabad in the topic “Jansanchar media aur Sanskrit” in November-2008.
• Department of Hindi celebrated “Hindi Diwas” on 17th September 2008. Dr. Radhyeshyam Shukla, Editor Hindi Varta, was the chief guest.
• Dr. S. Dutta, Lecturer in Hindi was invited at “Hindi Diwas” function organized by ECIL & Central Bank, Hyderabad.
• Dr. V.Lakshmi Devi, Dr. P. Shalini U.Rao and Dr. V. Ramana Jyoti attended two day National Seminar on “Pathways of Mental Ions in Reactions” organized at SSR Government Degree College, Karimnagar in August-2008.
• They also attended a National Seminar on “Applications of Spectroscopy” held at Govt. Women’s College Hyderabad in September-2008.
• Dr. D. Jyothi, Head Department of Commerce Mrs. V. Shireesha and Mrs. Neeta Aurangabadkar attended a UGC sponsored workshop on “Embedding Practicals in Commerce Education” at St. Francis College for Women Hyderabad in September-2008.
• Dr. Kastoori Srinivas Rao, Dr. K. Srinivas Rao and Mrs. Meenakshi attended training programes in Computer Exam, EXCEL & SPSS, organized at St. Joseph College and Nizam College.
• Dr. Mangrish HOD, Mathematics attended a workshop cum conference, organized by Department of Mathematics, Osmania University in December-2008.

consisting of Prof. Kunhi Krishnan, Pro – Vice Chancellor of Kannur University, as Chairman, Prof. H.Surya Prakash Rao, Member Co-ordinator, Department of Chemistry, Pondichery University, Pundichery and Dr. (Mrs.) Thavamani, Member, Principal Ethiraj College for Women Chennai visited the college in July 2008. They visited each Department and evinced keen interest in its working. This team also inspected the Library, Gym, Sport facilities and other amenities provided to the students. The college secured ‘B’ grade.
